Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) is a government agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), established to accelerate the commercialisation of research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) from idea to impact. 🧪 Connects research to industry: MRANTI bridges the gap between universities, researchers, and businesses to turn innovations into market-ready solutions. 🚀 Accelerates commercialisation: It provides funding, infrastructure (like testbeds and labs), and advisory services to help innovators bring products to market faster. 🌏 Focus areas: MRANTI focuses on high-impact sectors such as healthtech, agritech, drone tech, 5G/IR4.0, and green technology. 🤝 Manages national initiatives: It leads national programmes like the National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) and Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY). 🧭 Located at: MRANTI Park, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur — a hub for testing, prototyping, and scaling innovations. In essence, MRANTI is Malaysia’s one-stop centre for innovation commercialisation, aiming to make research work for the economy and society.
Rizal Azwir currently serves as the head of the NTIS in MRANTI. In his role, he is responsible for managing the NTIS programme and implementing best practices to achieve operational excellence alongside other members of the NTIS Secretariat, as well as agencies of MOSTI (Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation), related ministries, and agencies. Rizal has received certification as a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) from the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP) in Malaysia.
Rizal began his professional journey as a Project Engineer in 2010. Since the end of 2011, he has focused on Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property (IP) and has accumulated 11 years of experience in the R&D industry. He initiated his career at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where he had the privilege of representing Malaysia at the Japan Patent Office (JPO) for the IP Practitioners course, conducted in collaboration with MyIPO (Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia), spanning three weeks.
Later, Rizal joined PlaTCOM Ventures, where he gained valuable expertise in facilitating the progression of products from the R&D stage to commercialisation. Through his extensive work with UKM, Rizal has become well-versed in the challenges and obstacles faced by researchers and SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) when introducing and promoting their inventions in the market.
